The quick-hitch triangle, also called “quick-hitch”, “linkage triangle” or “A-Frame”, is a hitch system that allows tools to be changed without leaving the cabin. Safe, fast and ergonomic, it adapts and can be installed on most tools.
It consists of a triangular male part that attaches to the three points. To facilitate the unhitching and hitching operation, a hydraulic third point is installed with a double cylinder. The female part can be adapted to the fasteners in place if one wishes to preserve the integrity of the tool but it is often preferable to weld it on the tool to limit the offset.
The idea, imported from Europe and “open source”, developed a lot thanks to L’Atelier Paysan. It is possible to download the blue prints and build it yourself, however it is recommended to buy the male part from recognized manufacturers and to build the female part yourself which is much easier to make if you have the right tools and a good soldering workshop.
Here is an example of the time that can be saved. Let’s imagine a small farm of 1.5 ha which, in order to cultivate, must make about 400 tool changes per year. If we estimate 6 min. per hitching and unhitching, this represents about 40 hours per year. It’s over a 10% time savings if it is estimated that the tractor is used 300 hours per year. This alone largely covers investment. In addition, you will not hesitate to change tools and use the right ones, such as a coupling the pallet fork for exemple which is better carried by the back.
