This 5mm (3/16″) robust galvanized steel tomato plant support speeds up lowering and solid fertilization operations on the ground. Lowering of tomato plants is done on the horizontal bar located 20″ from the ground in order to prevent the fruits from touching the ground while leaving space under the plant for the air circulation (fungal diseases reduction), heating ducts and to soil fertilization operations.
These supports make it possible to effectively keep the plants off the ground during lowering. The stand has an overall width of 36 inches and can be laid diagonally for tighter layouts. The central leg of the support does not to poke into the plastic mulch, which allows to easily remove it for repetitive granular fertilization. Tomatoes are also off the ground and easier to harvest.
The two legs planted on the ground prevent it from rotating and the space in the center of the support allows to sneak a 12″ heating duct inside. The angles of the plant catchment area direct tomato stems well towards the horizontal bar of the support, reducing the risk that stems overflow off the support in the alleys.
A support is needed for every two or three plants (24″ to 40″ / 60cm to 100cm).
This support also works for trellised cucumbers and eggplants.
